Welcome to AMN GPS 4 the web
site with information on how to install and use the Safety Camera POI files
with the MEDION - MD95000 Pocket
PC*.
Also on this web site we
have included some sound files that can be used to announce that you are
arriving at the various camera types, with information on how to install
and configure them.
You will also be able to add your own and other suitable poi (points of interest)
files.
Lower down this page you can Download the information shown below to save
you viewing it on line.
Please note:
There is a one off registration charge of EUR
29.90* (as at November 2004, maybe subject to
change)
by the company that provides the software for the overlay of Safety Camera
POI's to work with this
setup. After you have installed all of the following you will be able
to add your own POI's as well.
O.K. lets start, first of all you will need your main PC and Pocket PC connected
via ActiveSync.
First make a FULL BACKUP of your Pocket PC via the Tools menu on ActiveSync,
this should only
take a minute or two, just in case you need to Restore to your original
setup.
Please take a few minutes to read all through these instructions first so
that you have an idea of
what is required and what happens at various stages of this setup.
1. Connect to the Internet via your main PC and then go to:
POI-Warner*
Follow
all of the instructions to install and register the POI-Warner utility.
(Credit Card Required for on-line registration).
2. You now need to download and install the following program
PoiEdit_v36r1.exe
PoiEdit_v36r1.exe
if the link above does not work then please try the
web site Download page at
Dnote
Software
You can disconnect
from the Internet at this time if you are using a dial-up connection to
save
your costs.
After downloading,
Double Click the file PoiEdit_v36r1.exe to install it on your main PC.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO START THE PROGRAM AT THIS TIME, JUST
INSTALL IT.
3. This step is required to
make it easier for you to download, convert and install the POI's.
On your main PC C:\ drive create a new folder,
and call it 'Camera poi' (without the quotes), then
OPEN this folder and create 2 more folders, one called
'Latest' and one called 'Converted'
(again both without the quotes).
The file structure should then look like this:
C:\Camera poi
\Latest
\Converted
Basically you should have one new folder on your C:\
drive called Camera poi, and then if you
open that folder you should see 2 other folders, one
called Latest and one called Converted.
You can now close those folders and go back to your
Desktop.
4. Now connect to the Internet (if not still connected) and download
the Safety Camera POI files
pocketgps_uk_sc.zip Click the 'Download the current database here'
when the page has loaded.
When asked where to save the file to, Browse to the
Latest folder that you created above,
then click OK.
You can again disconnect from the Internet as it is
not required anymore.
5. Browse to the folder C:\Camera poi\Latest and un-zip the
pocketgps_uk_sc.zip in to the
same folder.
While this folder is still open, you will see many files,
carefully look for the 6 files called:
pocketgps_continental.bmp
pocketgps_uk_gatso.bmp
pocketgps_uk_mobile.bmp
pocketgps_uk_redlight.bmp
pocketgps_uk_specs.bmp
pocketgps_uk_temp.bmp
COPY these 6 files, then paste them into the folder
called Converted, the one we created
above.
O.K. you can now close all of the folders and go back
to your Desktop.
6. Click Start - Programs - POI Edit - TomTom Poi Editor, the program
will then start.
Now on the top menu bar Click on Tools - Batch Convert
A new window will open, you then need to look where
it says Source Directory
Browse to the folder C:\Camera poi\Latest then
Click OK
You should now see the files:
pocketgps_continental.ov2
pocketgps_uk_gatso.ov2
pocketgps_uk_mobile.ov2
pocketgps_uk_redlight.ov2
pocketgps_uk_specs.ov2
pocketgps_uk_temp.ov2
If you do not see any files make sure that Source Format
is set to Ov2 binary (*.ov2)
Now look where it says Destination Directory
Browse to the folder C:\Camera poi\Converted
then Click OK
Make sure that the Destination Format is set to Ascii
(*.asc)
Now Click the Convert button, the converted files will
appear in the right pane.
O.K. you can now Close that window, and also the Main
program, make sure that you go to
File and select Exit, otherwise the program will stay
in your Taskbar.
7. The last part, wow, thought we would never get here.
You should be back at your Desktop, now double Click
on:
My Computer - Local Disk (C:) - Camera poi - Converted
C:\Camera poi\Converted you will see the
following files:
pocketgps_continental.asc
pocketgps_continental.bmp
pocketgps_uk_gatso.asc
pocketgps_uk_gatso.bmp
pocketgps_uk_mobile.asc
pocketgps_uk_mobile.bmp
pocketgps_uk_redlight.asc
pocketgps_uk_redlight.bmp
pocketgps_uk_specs.asc
pocketgps_uk_specs.bmp
pocketgps_uk_temp.asc
pocketgps_uk_temp.bmp
Select All the files and then COPY them, now close
the folders back to your Desktop.
Click
on the ActiveSync Icon to bring up the Menu, now select Explore,
on the new window double click:
My Pocket PC
Program Files
POIWarner MN4-Edition
pois
Now Paste the files into the pois folder, you can now
close all folders back to your Desktop.
We have finished, well not quite, we now need to configure
the program on your Pocket PC.
8. On your Pocket PC: tap Start - Programs - POI-Warner (Medion Navigator
4)
First you need to Activate the poi's to be
monitored:
tap
POI-Manager, POI-Settings, Overlay settings, then tap the box +/- ABOVE CENTER
and
choose the POI's to be monitored as shown ABOVE FAR
RIGHT, tap each box to set active (tick).
You need to check that they are also activated/selected
in the Acoustic alert.. menu as well.

| If you have
downloaded the sound files, un-zip them to a folder of your choice. Copy them, Click on the ActiveSync Icon to bring up the Menu, now select Explore, on the new window double click: My Pocket PC Program Files POIWarner MN4-Edition pois Now Paste the files into the pois folder. O.K. that really is all folks.
